Almost There!!

Well, school starts on Monday, and today was my first official day of work. One of the kindergarten teachers had a little celebration for me when I clocked in this morning.

So far, the best part of the day was being able to make this happen:

This bulletin board will have pictures of the kids and the things that we do throughout the year! I hope it'll be an ever-evolving reminder of all of the fun memories we make this year!

Tomorrow afternoon is parent orientation so I am trying hard to make sure everything is set up and organized so I can make a good first impression! I know a lot of parents are uneasy with their children in a first-year-teacher's room, so I want to make sure that I show them I know what I am doing!

However, I am TERRIBLE at talking to big people! Getting up in front of 100 6 year olds is nothing, getting up in front of 18 or so adults makes me nauseated!

This is my word wall. It actually says "Wonderful Words" in a really cute way, but the glare on the camera makes it really difficult to show.

The room is still a little bare, but it's very clean and very neat. I HOPE to keep it that way, and if you know me well, you know this is going to be a challenge to say the least. I am hoping to cover bare spots with things the kids have done to really make it feel like it is theirs, too.

progress!

The room is starting to finally look like something I can work with! I haven't been able to get in there much the past few weeks, but now maybe I can.

My very first student! EK LOVES to learn about triangles.

o.ver.whelmed.

I have to wait to move into my room until the current occupant (my kindergarten teacher) moves down the hall. So today I went to work in my classroom, or at least to try to get a plan of action... and this is what I saw..

Needless to say, there is a LOT of work to be done. Every single cabinet and bookcase is COMPELTELY full. I'm calling these the "before" pictures, and hopefully soon I will have "progress" pictures.

There are 47 days until the first day of school, and I think it would take me all 47 days to move out if I had to do it... but she says she is using me as incentive to move out fast. A girl can dream, right?

Welcome to First Grade!

After years of preparation and twelve tough months since graduation, I officially have my own classroom! I get the honor of being a first grade teacher in the elementary school where I grew up.
I am absolutely overwhelmed already with all of the things I need to get accomplished in the next 49 days, and I know I am going to be working non-stop to get everything exactly the way I want it. The unfortunate news is all of the decorating will have to wait because my classroom is currently filled with another teacher's things, so I can't move in until she moves out. So, I will just have to use the house as a staging area for all things first grade.
